When it comes to buying a budget CPU in mid – 2018, only two processors are there to give you the best performance. We are going to give a comparison to see which is the best budget processors Intel i5 8400 or Ryzen 5 2400G. Earlier in 2017, Intel was the only option for all budget build. But after AMD introduced RYZEN CPU there are many options are available in the market. We are going to discuss factors for overall performance efficiency on these budget CPU.
In the first quarter of 2018, there was a massive hike in prices for CPU and graphics cards for all those crypto miners. But in July prices came back to normal, that’s a good news for those who want to build a budget pc. Thinking of building new pc Intel is the first name that everyone thinks of. In today’s best budget CPU, Ryzen 5 2400G is an excellent alternative to Intel coffee lake processor i5 8400.
Intel i5 8400 is giving a base frequency of 2.8 GHz and max turbo frequency of 4.0 GHz. In this processor, you will get 6 cores with 6 threads. With the other hand, Ryzen comes with 4 cores and 8 threads and you will get a clock speed of 3.6 GHz with the max clock speed of 3.9 GHz.
So, in this category, both are almost similar. You can overclock RYZEN APU(accelerated processing unit: combined CPU and GPU) but performance difference will not much higher. On the other hand intel i5, 8400 does not support overclocking.
If you are thinking about gaming and doubtful how Intel will perform at 2.8 GHz? That’s why they gave max frequency at 4.0 GHz, That means if you are doing light works in pc then processor will run at 2.8GHz but when you do heavy multitasking or gaming its frequency automatically reaches to 4.0 GHz. If you are thinking of saving power then Intel is better.
Ryzen 5 2400G APU comes with integrated 11 units of Radeon™ RX Vega graphics and Intel 5 comes with Intel® UHD Graphics 630. Here is the big difference you will notice, with the integrated graphics RYZEN 5 will give you better performance in the aspect of gaming or heavy multitasking.
But if you are going to buy an external graphics card like GTX 1050ti or GTX 1060, there will be no noticeable difference between those two processors. So, if you are not on the budget to buy an external GPU then Ryzen 5 is your best choice.
U can get Ryzen APU at a cheaper price than Intel i5. i5 processor costs around $196 in July 2018, whether you can get Ryzen around $178. These two are the most Budget-friendly processors among others available in the market.
With the external graphics card, both processors will give a neck to neck performance. If you do a lot of gaming, heavy multitasking, video rendering and don’t want to spend for external GPU then Ryzen is the best choice for you. But in single core performance, Intel beats RYZEN. Although Intel i5-8400 is not an overclockable processor it performs better than an overclockable Ryzen 2400G. If you are buying a high-end graphics card like 1060 or 1070 then Intel is my recommendation. If you do not intend to buy graphics card when building pc then you go with Ryzen 5 2400G.
